Mark Rogers

I started playing guitar when I was about 10 years old. 1964 was a good year, The Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan show, The British invasion was in full swing. My older sister belonged to a record club, and somehow I inherited a Dave Clark 5 LP from her. It was then that I decided to try playing the old guitar that my older brother had given me. I didn't even know how to play it yet when I wrote my first song! I just played what I wanted to hear. Even after taking lessons for a couple of years, I continued playing what I wanted to hear.

Garage bands not withstanding, my professional career as a musician began in 1977 as an acoustic duo and rapidly progressed into a full-blown rock n roll band. Ten years later, I was completely burned out. I sold all of my gear and actually had no plans to ever play music again. During the years that I was "retired", I would occasionally play my wife's acoustic guitar when I had a song floating around in my head that I had to write.

In 2002, my wife and I began taking our son to church, and we both realized that we needed Jesus in our lives. We joined the church almost immediately. Then in 2003 the songs began to take on a different "flavor". I began listening to Christian music on the radio, and before I knew it, I was writing music for the Lord. The songs began to come to me at a rather furious pace.

After my walk to Emmaus, I realized that Jesus was calling me to serve Him. I try to project my personal feelings about Jesus and the impact He has had on my life in the music that I write. I believe the weak, frail, vulnerable human element is sadly missing from a lot of Christian music, and I hold nothing back in my attempt to convey that element that lives in me.
