Marty Warriner

As a teenager growing up listening and singing along to Doug Oldham, and other gospel groups, I never thought that one day I would be part of a Contemporary Christian Band.

Finding myself playing the drums in a church is where I thought GOD was going to use me. Well, as most of us know, just when you think you are where GOD wants you to be. He opens bigger doors.

We moved from Louisiana back to West Virginia. I was searching for a church that needed a drummer. I thought GOD would not have given me the little drumming skills I had and a set of drums not to be used for him. We found a church. They didn’t need a drummer. That summer my stepdaughter moved and left a 20th Anniversary Squire Guitar, which a friend had given her, at the house for her brother. I picked it up and started messing around with it. I guess I should say I confiscated it. Evan looked at me one day and said “Meg left that guitar for me. If you want one why don’t you go buy your own so I can have mine?” I did. Three to be exact.

I started playing the guitar with the two other guitarists on our Worship Team at church. Not knowing that GOD would soon call them to a different church, leaving me as the only guitar player. Scratching my head, wondering if I could fulfill the needs of the worship team. I heard that small still voice say. I knew along time ago when Meg left her guitar, that I would use you right where you are today. I had no idea that in seeking his will for my life, that he would give to me the chance to use a talent that I would have never in my life thought would be mine, to worship and praise him.

GOD has open many doors for the gift he has given to me. I stand humbled before GOD and all the doors he has opened. I not only get to play for our Worship Team, I get to play with our Youth Band, and truly led by Jesus to a great group of Christian musician, The Crosstones.

In closing. As my favorite Crosstones song says: “LET EVERY THING I DO, LET IT BE FOR YOU GOD.
